How I research better (and faster) with ChatGPT as a freelance copywriter

1. The agency I work with has a great onboarding form that covers all the basic details they want from the client.

Think features, USPs, competitors, brand voice, desire, fears, and other stuff.

If you don’t have something like this yet, just ask the free version of ChatGPT to give you a list of 10–15 great questions to ask a brand that reveals their messaging.

^This is not a prompt but you can damn well make it into one.

2. Since I have the paid version, I export that document as a PDF and upload that on a separate chat for that brand only.

3. I start my messaging research by diving deeper into asking the AI about benefits, dreams, desires, goals, problems, objections and so much more.

4. It gives me detailed answers for almost everything.

But here’s the best part: The chat has memory so it’s slowly becoming a brand expert with every consecutive question asked.

5. From there on, I treat this chat like a brand expert and my strategic assistant. I frequently use it to research, facilitate and test ad angles/messaging.

6. I use it to generate and edit copy and scripts. But I make sure that nothing passes without a human touch or a quality check.

Lesson: You can use AI to help you think better and faster. But before you do that, have some systems in place to document information.
