First introduced in a book called “Who am I?” by Steven Reiss, there are 16 core desires that drive human behaviour.

You might know the popular ones like eating, family, honour, etc.

But let’s talk about some lesser known ones today and how they look in the real world…

Desire 1

Idealism: The desire to do the right thing and make the world a better place.

Patagonia’s campaigns that back the planet and environment are a great example of this.

Desire 2

Acceptance: The desire to feel included, loved and free from rejection.

Stress out, wind down and use an app to bring your mind to rest. Calm provides, but never judges.

Desire 3

Independence: The desire to have freedom and control over one’s choices.

Nike knows how to capitalize on emotions at the right time and back their athletes in their choices.

Desire 4

Order: The desire to get structured and organized in whatever you do so there’s predictability.

The headline says it all. It is the fastest, most organized way to build your kid’s imagination and future.

Desire 5

Physical Activity: The desire for movement, vitality and an elevated physical sense of being.

Adidas turned running from being just a physical activity to the one that’s also very emotional.

Desire 6

Power: The desire to have influence and achieve status.

Nobody does it better than The Economist. Real power lies between your two ears, indeed.

Desire 7

Social Contact: The desire to connect with others.

Coke is not just a drink. It’s a reason to bond over.
